Zhang Jinbiao, born in December 1935 in Shengzhou, Zhejiang, graduated from the Chinese Painting Department of China Academy of Art in 1964, under the tutelage of famous artists such as Pan Tianshou, Lu Yanshao and Lu Weizhao. Currently a member of the Chinese Artists Association, deputy editor of Shanghai Painting and Calligraphy Publishing House, deputy director of China Poetry, Calligraphy and Painting Publishing House, curator of China Digital Art Museum, foreign tenured academician and honorary professor of the Royal Swedish Academy of Painting, distinguished academician of China Yanhuang Painting Academy, national first-level Artist, Doctor of Chinese Art, is hereby hired as the "Honorary Deputy Curator of the Louvre" etc.

He is recognized as the "national master of painting pandas", a generation of masters, masters of art, and the world's top ten masters of art. He has held more than ten solo exhibitions in Beijing, Shanghai, Taiwan, etc. as well as Japan, France, Germany and other countries, and his works have been selected for many national art exhibitions. Representative works include "Nanni Bay on the Sea", "Panda Banquet", "Love", and "Welcome to the Dawn of the Millennium".

"The 1997 Panda Long Scroll to Welcome the Return of Hong Kong" (21650cm×69cm), issued by the Shanghai Great World Guinness Headquarters on July 1, 2007, "The Greatest Guinness World" certificate; responsible for editing "Ren Bonian Group Fairy Birthday Picture" Monthly calendar, won the Bronze Award of the First (1980-1990) Chinese Excellent Art Book by the Press and Publication Administration of the People’s Republic of China in 1991; more than 30 works have been collected by the Chinese Revolutionary Military Museum, Mao Zedong Memorial Hall, Soong Ching Ling Memorial Hall, Da Nihon Shoyun Academy, etc.

In 2015, he won the World Peace Art Award. In 2020, he won the "World's Highest Art Hall Award" and awarded the title of "World Outstanding Artist".

Long scroll Chinese paintings have been valued and treasured by people in the past. For example, Zhou Fang's "Picture of Hairpin Lady in the Tang Dynasty" and Zhang Zeduan's "Picture of the River on the Qingming Festival" in the Song Dynasty are all representative masterpieces. I held a solo exhibition of eight long scrolls in Shanghai Duoquxuan in November 1995. The most prominent of these are the three long scrolls with 100 pictures of pandas (27 meters long), one is my own painting of 100 pictures of pandas, and the other is my own painting of 100 pictures of pandas. The third is the famous old painter Shen Shijia. The picture I painted a hundred pandas was supplemented by more than 80 old painters such as Xie Zhiliu, Wang Geyan, Ying Yeping, Cheng Shifa, Fang Zengxian... During the exhibition, it was well received and appreciated by predecessors and colleagues.

July 1, 1997 is the day when Hong Kong returns to the motherland. This is a long-awaited joyous day for the people of the whole country, overseas Chinese from all over the world, Hong Kong and Macao compatriots. To welcome the return of Hong Kong and wash away the centuries of shame, I am as excited as the people of the whole country. And with practical actions, I expressed my heart and determination to create a long scroll Chinese painting of 1997 pandas with a length of 21650 cm，and a width of 69 cm.

Since the Spring Festival that year, I have tried my best to make the giant pandas in my paintings have different postures, both shape and spirit, novel composition, bold pen and ink, vivid charm, and colorful content. There are pandas eating fruit, pandas giving birth, pandas climbing trees, pandas swimming, Vivid images of panda acrobatics, panda games, panda dining, panda play, panda fighting wolf, panda funny insects, panda love, panda party, panda friendship, panda drinking and so on. It is accompanied by vivid scenes, painted with pine, cypress, cedar, green bamboo, landscape, flowers and grass, bright colors, gurgling water, arrows and bamboos everywhere, red leaves and green stones dotted among them, four generations of pandas are in the same house, singing and dancing, and giant pandas are here. The indisputable and beautiful Jinshan Yinshan natural environment shares coexistence and co-development with human beings.

I will use all my skills in drawing figure painting for six years at the Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts and the 25 years of skills accumulated since Nixon’s visit to China in 1972 to draw pandas. The hard work finally got his wish, and a huge scroll of 1997 pandas with vivid charm, majestic momentum, unprecedented, different postures, wonderful, and never-to-be-satisfying was displayed in front of my eyes. The old painters Qian Juntao and Shen Shijia looked at my long scroll of panda drawings and gave them full affirmation. The seal engraver Qian Juntao inscribed the introductory of the long scroll "Welcome the return of Hong Kong 1997 panda scroll".

On June 1, 1997, at the Shanghai China Welfare Association Children’s Palace Celebration, I gave a painting of 26 giant pandas named "1997" (198cm×99cm) I created to Hong Kong’s Soong Ching Ling Children’s Palace, which was very popular. Shanghai Labor News published a report.

I drew the news about the 1997 giant panda scroll, and also interviewed and reported on Shanghai Wenhui Po, Shanghai Radio and Shanghai TV.

The giant panda is a rare animal in China and is loved by the people of the world. As a "friendship messenger", I am determined to draw this huge scroll, which can be exhibited in Hong Kong, Macau and at home and abroad, Contribute to the promotion of friendly exchanges between people of all countries We will continue to work hard and make persistent efforts to create more giant panda works, so that the national giant panda can be popularized all over the world, and develop with mankind, share destiny, survive and enjoy together; be friendly to all mankind from generation to generation, and continue to live endlessly.

After a lapse of ten years in 2007, "The 1997 Panda Giant Scroll to Welcome Hong Kong's Return" passed a strict review and finally won the "Shanghai Great World Guinness Book of Best" noble certificate, and it has been widely used in many books in the "Great World Guinness Book of Records". Propaganda reports spread all over the world, as well as Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. The giant panda has become a "friendly messenger", and has gradually received the general concern and love of people all over the world. At present, there are only more than 1,000 giant pandas living in my country, and they are rare and endangered animals. Because the panda pictures will also become a bridge of friendship between nations, spread throughout the world, and through works appeal to kind people from all over the world to protect rare beasts like giant pandas. In recent years, People’s Daily reporter Cai Jialin wrote an article for Zhang Jinbiao, “Starting from the writing, originating from the soul” in reports and book reviews on the ninety-ninth anniversary of the founding of the party; Hearing the artist’s unforgettable inner monologue, through Zhang Jinbiao’s artistic creations, especially the wonderful “national treasure” panda works, It seems to feel the profound accumulation of a literati artist, and the broad knowledge of a gentle scholar.

In the past seventy years, Zhang Jinbiao has attacked form, mind, and spirit in his artistic explorations, with his long-cherished artistic aspirations that he can't give up, he has cultivated and studied in culture, and he is in the process of precipitation. Zhang Jinbiao's body is filled with the feelings of Li Sao, his blood is filled with the agitation of Li and Du, and his bones are full of Tao's pastoral, painting, truth-seeking, truth-seeking, innovation, change, and leisure travel between heaven and earth.
